Hangzhou: Water – A Key Challenge For Sustainable Development in Asia

Our Asian regional meeting will be held in Hangzhou, China where the famous and newly anointed world heritage site, West Lake, is situated. It was chosen not only to host the Asian regional meeting, but a major multi-cultural concert on February 16, 2012 as well.

Topics to be discussed:

1. Improvements in the management of freshwater resources
(Focus on supply and demand, quantity and quality, sustainable development of fragile and finite freshwater resources, environmental sustainability;  and partnerships for water development)

2. The role of water for building a green economy/society

3. The sustainable management of freshwater resources as a key factor for a culture of peace and prosperity

Participation of many Asian experts and the top officials of the City including the Mayor is expected. This major multi-cultural concert that will conclude the proceedings will focus on the message of the importance of water and its preservation, and will be communicated through the “Water Concerto” by Tan Dun.
